Best Parking

The most convenient parking in the area is located at John Hancock Center with entrances off of Chestnut and Delaware. Parking rates are competitive with neighboring facilities.

Best Times to Visit

The Hancock Observatory staff moves visitors up to the observatory safely and efficiently using the fastest elevators in North America. The best time to visit is early in the morning from 9-11 a.m. or after 4 p.m. for those great sunsets and starry skylines. Visit www.sunrisesunset.com for specific times.

Fun facts about The Hancock Observatory, a.k.a. "Big John":

My elevators move at 1,800 feet a minute.
You can see up to 4 states: Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and, of course, Illinois from the observatory.
My Skywalk is 1,000 feet above the street. (Check out the temperature and wind gauges to see what it is like 94 floors above Chicago!)
The builders used enough steel to make 33,000 cars.
My black aluminum skin would stretch out to cover 12 football fields.
My weight in steel is 46,000 tons or 92 million pounds.
If I stood in the deepest part of Lake Michigan I would still stick out of the water!

The Hancock Observatory is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. (last ticket sold at 10:45 p.m.)
