The one place your group must see,
to see Chicago!

John Hancock Observatory recognizes tour operators with professional affiliations to: National Tour Association (NTA), Travel Industry Association of America (TIA), Receptive Services Association of America (RSAA), American Bus Association (ABA), Ontario Motorcoach Association (OMCA), Student & Youth Travel Association (SYTA); as well as those that attend the Heartland Travel Showcase.

What makes John Hancock Observatory so special?

  • Chicago Tribune calls it 'the best View of Chicago'.
  • Our open-air Skywalk is the only one of its kind in Chicago.
  • John Hancock Center is the only Chicago building to be part of the World Federation of Great Towers.
  • Our new multimedia Sky Tour from Discovery, narrated by David Schwimmer, is the only one of its kind in Chicago (and it's included in the discounted group rate).
  • We're the only viewing tower situated in the heart of downtown Chicago - the place for premier shopping, theatre and dining.
  • We can hold up to 600 guests at one time.
  • Groups receive express ticket entry (there may be a queue for the elevator).

How and when do I purchase tickets for groups of 20 or more?

Please fill out the appropriate online reservation form (see above) We might be able to accept a walk up group, but booking a minimum of one week in advance ensures the best service for your group. If you are looking at spring dates, 3 months in advance is recommended.

Will I receive a confirmation of my group order?

You should receive a confirmation the following business day. If you don't, please contact us again since that means we did not receive your request.

How does our group check-in?

Your group should arrive through our Delaware (north side of building-one way street heading east) or Michigan Avenue entrances. The Delaware entrance provides barrier free access.

If your group comes through Delaware, they will take the escalator down to the lower level concourse where the group leader will check in with your JHO confirmation number.

If your group comes through Michigan, they will take the stairs down to the Garden Plaza level and head to the observatory entrance at the back of the lower level concourse. Please confirm final counts before the cashier processes your transaction.

What is your payment policy?
And what forms of payment do you accept?

No deposit is required. We gladly accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, cash and company checks (but not personal checks).

Is there onsite catering?

Good news - we can offer you to-go breakfast and lunch from Jewell Events & Catering, plus lunch from Hard Rock Cafè. These sample menus below reflect our standard fare but each menu option can be customized to fit your group needs.

All orders (minimum of 20) must be placed at least 3 days prior to arriving.

How much time should our group allow for our visit?

Most groups find 1 hour is usually enough time to enjoy the full JHO experience.
